  • 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness recommended.
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Toasting garlic enhances flavor.
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For cooking.
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mash the chickpeas with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
  2. Add breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, olive oil, and soy sauce. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
Cooking
  1. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a little oil.
  2. Cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
Serving
  1. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Got leftovers? These burgers keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also freeze them for up to 3 months. Form patties ahead of time for convenience.
