  • 1 lb ground beef Lean ground beef preferred
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or American) Any melting cheese can be used
  • 1 piece pie crust Store-bought or homemade
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions Yellow onions work well
  • 1/2 cup chopped pickles Dill or bread-and-butter pickles
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup mustard
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1 piece egg (for egg wash) Beaten

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground beef and chopped onions over medium heat until the beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in ketchup, mustard, chopped pickles, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.
  4. Roll out the pie crust and place it in a greased pie dish.
  5. Spoon the beef mixture into the crust and sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
  6. Cover with another layer of pie crust or fold the edges over. Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  8. Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

For best results, allow to cool slightly before serving. Can be served with a fresh green salad or fries.
