Ingredients
  

For the Burger
  • 1 can 15 oz black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (regular or gluten-free)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 large egg Can be replaced with flaxseed meal or unsweetened applesauce for a vegan option.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mash the black beans until mostly smooth.
  2. Add in the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, and the egg.
  3. Shape the mixture into burger patties.
Cooking
  1. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until they’re golden brown.
Serving
  1. Serve the burgers on a warm bun with fresh lettuce, tomato, and spicy mayo, or on a bed of greens.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat in a skillet or microwave. Adjust the recipe with chopped veggies for added texture or spices for more kick.
