For the Veggie Burger Patties
  • 1 can 15 ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed Black beans add protein and texture.
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion Adds sweetness and flavor.
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper Any color bell pepper can be used.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced Boosts flavor.
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs Can substitute with crushed tortilla chips.
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup Adds moisture and sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder For a spicy kick.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin Enhances the flavor profile.
  • to taste none Salt and black pepper Essential for seasoning.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For frying the patties.
For Serving
  • 2 pieces burger buns Use your favorite type.
  • to taste none desired toppings Lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, etc.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, mash the black beans with a fork, leaving some whole for texture.
  2. Stir in chopped onion, bell pepper, garlic, breadcrumbs, ketchup, chili powder, and cumin.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste and mix until well combined.
  4. Divide the mixture into two patties.
Cooking
  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Carefully place the patties in the skillet.
  3. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side or until heated through and browned.
  4. Serve the burgers on buns with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
